§ Q11. Mr. Hoosonasked the Prime Minister whether any approaches have now been made to him by the Government of the United States of America with a view to setting up a permanent United Nations peacekeeping force; and what representations on the matter he has made to the President of the United States of America.
§ The Prime MinisterNo such approaches have been made by either side. In our view a more hopeful approach to peacekeeping is through the development of a system of commitment of national contingents, better training and improved United Nations co-ordination, and this is the policy which we have put forward in the United Nations Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations.
