HC Deb 22 May 1969 vol 784 cc134-5W
Mr. Dewar

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what consultations have taken place with the Icelandic Government in connection with their decision to allow Icelandic trawlers to fish within that country's 12-mile limit; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mulley

A Bill at present before the Icelandic Parliament provides for Icelandic trawlers of all sizes to fish in certain zones within the twelve-mile limit at certain seasons only. The Bill is experimental and will be valid in the first instance only until the end of 1971.

There have been no consultations with the Icelandic Government. In accordance with the Exchange of Notes of 1961 fishing within the twelve-mile limit falls entirely within Icelandic jurisdiction.
