HC Deb 28 March 1969 vol 780 c371W
Dame Joan Vickers

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what action the Government has taken on Resolution 69(2) adopted on 25th January, 1969, by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and relating to an intensified modern language teaching programme for Europe.

Miss Alice Bacon

I welcome this Resolution and my Department will continue to encourage modern language teaching in the terms of the Resolution which reflects current thought and developments in this country.

Local Education Authorities and teachers are responsible for curricula, but the aims of the Resolutions are becoming more widely accepted through the work of such agencies as the Schools Council, the Nuffield Foundation, the Modem Language Association and through courses and conferences organised by Her Majesty's Inspectorate and Local Education Authority advisers.
