§ Mr. John Pageasked the Postmaster-General whether he will publish details of the basic work which results in a cost on average of £150 to provide a telephone for the use of an individual customer.
§ Mr. StonehouseThe basic requirements for exchange line service are the telephone apparatus and wiring at the customer's premises, wires and cables from there to the telephone exchange, and the terminal equipment at the telephone exchange. The exchange equipment and cabling to distribution points are provided in advance. When service is required, wiring from these points to and within the customer's premises is needed to connect the telephone, and the necessary connections have to be made at the exchange.
