Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will give for the longest convenient stated period of time as detailed information as may be available of the imports of fruit machines, juke-boxes, etc., and other slot machines; what amount of currency was expended on such imports and from which countries these were imported; to what extent there have been exports of these types of machines; and whether this type of export trade is increasing.

Mr. Dell

The only information available relates to the import of all types of coin or disc-operated amusement machines and parts, including fruit machines, etc., and coin-operated gramophones. Figures for 1967 are given in Volume II of the Annual Statement of Trade of the United Kingdom on pages 341 and 347–8; those for January to June 1969 were:
