HC Deb 24 July 1969 vol 787 cc489-92W
Mr. Rankin

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has now fixed the minimum control prices for inclusive tour holidays by air in Europe for the summer of 1970.

8. Mr. William Rodgers

Below is a summary of the new control price provisions. The changes are designed to promote off-peak travel, to reduce the differentials between journeys starting from London and those starting from the provinces, and to assist travel to more distant destinations. I shall discuss with the scheduled airlines the need for consequential adjustments in ITX fares.

Following is the information:

Inclusive Tour Control Prices, Europe, Summer 1970

Route differentiation No differentiation between "business" and 'holiday" routes.

Scheduled and non-scheduled services Control prices to be applicable without distinction for inclusive tours involving air travel on scheduled as on non-scheduled services and foreign as well as United Kingdom carriers.

Undertaking All adult passengers and unaccompanied children paying full price, to sign, before de- parture, an undertaking to use the accommodation and participate in the tour programme included in the tour price.

Basic control prices Control prices to be determined according to the standard Provision I formula, save that the relevant fare shall be that which applied in the period 1st April to 31st October, 1968. (Where the relevant fare has subsequently been reduced, the lower fare to apply.)

Provincial Departures The control price for provincial departures shall be the sum of the relevant fare from London and the appropriate amount included in the schedule attached; or the relevant direct fare prescribed by I.A.T.A. where this is lower.
