§ 53. Mr. Ronald Atkinsasked the President of the Board of Trade what are the duties and other restrictions on British motor vehicle exports to Japan as compared with British duties and restrictions on imports of Japanese cars into Great Britain.
§ Mrs. Gwyneth DunwoodyCurrent Japanese import duties on cars range from 28 per cent, to 36 per cent.ád valorem and on commercial vehicles from 16 per cent. to 24 per cent. When the Kennedy Round reductions come into full effect at the beginning of 1972, the rates of duty on cars will range from 17½ per cent. to 30 per cent. and on other vehicles from 10 per cent. to 15 per cent.
The current British m.f.n. import duty on cars is 17½ per cent. and on commercial vehicles the duties range from 12 per cent to 22 per cent. When the full Kennedy Round reductions have been made, the rates will be 11 per cent. for cars and 11 per cent. or 22 per cent. for commercial vehicles.
No quantitative restrictions are maintained by either country on imports of new motor vehicles from the other.
