1. Mr. Maurice MaMacmillanasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will give the dates on which his Department discovered the under-recording of exports and mis-recording of exports.
§ Mr. DellThe evidence became available from Customs and Excise over a period of time. Following some isolated instances of failure by exporters to lodge export documents, a special investigation by Customs and the Board of Trade was begun in the spring of 1968. The facts were made public on 12th June, 1969, as soon as this extensive and systematic inquiry had provided the data for identifying and estimating the extent of under-recording. The over-valuation of some exports was established by an investigation completed in May of this year.
