§ 71. Sir G. de Freitasasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what progress he has made in discussions with the various athletic organisations towards implementing the recommendations of the Byers Committee.
§ Mr. Denis HowellThe proposals for the re-organisation of athletics in the United Kingdom following the Byers report announced by the Secretary of the British Amateur Athletic Board in February are still being formally considered by the several governing bodies concerned. I understand that considerable progress is being made and as soon as the governing bodies have indicated their views I shall be able to resume my discussions. In the meantime officers of the Department are giving preliminary consideration to the proposals as they have evolved so far.
