HC Deb 04 July 1969 vol 786 c153W
Sir R. Russell

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many local authorities in Scotland arrange for their sewage to be treated together with household and trade refuse and made into compost; what is the value of the compost obtained; and what steps are being taken to extend this practice.

Mr. Ross

I understand that four local authorities treat refuse in this way, and that proceeds from the sale of compost amounts to about £10,000 annually. The most suitable method of refuse disposal depends on local circumstances.
