§ Mrs. Ewing
asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why there was a fall of 14 per cent. between 1962–63 and 1967–68 in Scotland's share relative to population of capital expenditure by the nationalised industries; and what steps he is taking to remedy this situation.
§ Mr. Roy Jenkins
The size and pattern of capital expenditure by the nationalised industries reflects changes in202W the demand for their products and services. Population changes are only one factor to be taken into account. In fact, capital expenditure in Scotland by the nationalised industries rose by nearly 54 per cent. between 1962–63 and 1967–68 whereas population fell slightly.
