HC Deb 26 February 1969 vol 778 cc310-1W
Mr. Ellis

72 & 73. asked the President of the Board of Trade (1) if he will take action under the Trade Descriptions Act against vendors who falsely describe eggs as free range eggs;

(2) if he will take action under the Trade Descriptions Act against those who falsely describe the meat they sell as quality veal.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

Local weights and measures authorities are under a duty to enforce this legislation, and to take whatever action is appropriate when possible offences come to their attention.

Mrs. Ewing

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will take proceedings under Section 2(1) of the Trade Descriptions Act in regard to those instances of goods made in Scotland which are labelled, "Made in England"; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

I am not aware of any such instances. The duty of enforcing the Act is laid upon local weights and measures authorities, and any alleged contraventions should be brought to their notice.
