§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will give to date the costs to the Exchequer of the legal aid granted to Dr. Savundra; and on what basis such legal aid was granted.
§ Mr. Elystan MorganI stated in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend on 23rd July last that the cost of the legal aid granted to Dr. Savundra was approximately £10,000. It was granted after enquiry into his means by the courts. There was at that time no statutory power to require him to contribute towards the cost. No further aid has since been granted to him.
