Friend is referring to the Police Research and Development Branch of the Home Office, its annual budget for 1966–67 and 1967–68 was, respectively, £49,000 and £153,000; and for 1968–69 I expect it to be £240,000. The establishment of the 219W Branch at present consists of 29 scientists, 9 senior police officers, 3 specialist advisers and 4 technicians.
