HC Deb 21 February 1969 vol 778 cc175-6W
Mr. Whitaker

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will take steps to ensure co-ordination of the most beneficial use of the routes of disused railway lines.

Mr. Marsh

No. If a disused line is unlikely to be needed for future rail services, the Railways Board are free to dispose of the land. They have undertaken to offer it first to local authorities, to ensure the most beneficial use in the public interest.
