HC Deb 20 February 1969 vol 778 c135W
18. Mr. Ronald Atkins

asked the Secreary of State for Economic Affairs what study he is making of the economic effects of railway closures in development areas.

Mr. Urwin

Before any passenger services are withdrawn the Regional Economic Planning Council advise on the economic planning implications of the proposal. A separate general study is therefore not required. During 1969, more than one-third of the £62 million payable as grant for passenger services retained on social or economic grounds will relate to services in or to the development areas.
