Payments accordingly recommended local authorities to charge £6 10s. a week (£7 5s. a week in London) from the academic year 1968–69 to students from England and Wales on non-advanced courses. This represents an average increase of about 30s. a week or 30 per cent. compared with 1966–67. Information about charges at individual polytechnics is not available without special inquiries of local authorities, and could not be obtained without a disproportionate expenditure of time and money.
