HC Deb 20 February 1969 vol 778 c156W
Mr. Edwin Brooks

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the outstanding balance of defence aid granted to Malaysia by Her Majesty's Government in 1957 and 1959.

Mr. Foley

Arrangements are being made by the Governments of the United Kingdom and Malaysia whereby the Malaysian Government will forego the balance due to them from the 1957–59 Defence Aid allotments. In addition the Malaysian Government will withdraw certain claims against the United Kingdom for facilities granted and services supplied to United Kingdom forces whilst they were in East Malaysia. The Government of the United Kingdom will for their part undertake to waive any claim for compensation for camps built in East Malaysia for operational purposes and also for logistic and other support.
