asked Her Majesty's Government:

  1. (i) How many Air Operators' Certificates are at present in force;
  2. (ii) How many applications for Air Operators' Certificates are at present under consideration;
  3. (iii) How many Flight Operations Inspectors are at present available for duty;
  4. (iv) How many Flight Operations Inspectors are at present employed but under training;
  5. (v) Whether the number of Flight Operations Inspectors at present employed is considered sufficient for the task.

The position is as follows:—

  1. (i) 43 Air Operators' Certificates are in force;
  2. (ii) 13 fresh applications are under consideration; together with 4 from operators wishing to vary an existing Certificate;
  3. (iii) 27 Flight Operations Inspectors are available for duty;
  4. (iv) 2 additional Inspectors are under training;
  5. (v) the number of Inspectors at present employed is three fewer than the number considered desirable. Offers of appointment have already been accepted in respect of two of these vacancies.
