HC Deb 17 February 1969 vol 778 c32W
97. Mr. Grimond

asked the Minister of Transport, in view of the fact that the local doctor made representations to the official who arrived in Unst around midday on 13th March, 1968, that he should give the local nurse a driving test after she had been omitted from the list although her application had been acknowledged one month before, if he will again consider allowing the local police to carry out driving tests in the islands.

Mr. Marsh

No. It is not possible to allow the local police to conduct tests in the Islands because of the very real problem of ensuring that a uniform standard of assessment is maintained throughout the country.
