HC Deb 14 February 1969 vol 777 c396W
Mr. Ian Lloyd

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will introduce legislation to make it obligatory for airlines operating commercial passenger services to and from British airports to indicate in their promotional literature, timetables and other matter, the minimum seating intervals which they will maintain for tourist, economy and inclusive tour services.

Mr. William Rodgers

No. I think that seating density is a matter best left to the airlines within the limits of prescribed safety regulations.

Mr. Ian Lloyd

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will instruct Her Majesty's Government's representatives to seek to place the drafting of a convention on minimum seating intervals for economy tours and inclusive tour airline operations on the agenda of the next meeting of the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

Mr. William Rodgers

No.

Mr. Ian Lloyd

asked the President of the Board of Trade what information his Department obtains on a routine basis about the seating density currently being maintained by British European Airways, the British Overseas Airways Corporation and other airlines offering regular or scheduled services to and from British airports.

Mr. William Rodgers

None on a routine basis but this information is available either from published sources or on request when there is a need for it.
