HC Deb 12 February 1969 vol 777 c321W
35. Mr. John Page

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the precision approach radar equipment was withdrawn from Gatwick Airport during 1967 or 1968; what equipment was installed to replace this; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. William Rodgers

Precision Approach Radar (P.A.R.) equipment was withdrawn from Gatwick Airport in 1968 some ten months after it had ceased to be used. The Instrument Landing System (I.L.S.) which is the internationally approved approach aid, has taken its place. As I informed the House on 20th January, we are at present reviewing the decision that P.A.R. should be withdrawn from airports in the United Kingdom.—[Vol. 776, c. 40–44.]
