HC Deb 11 February 1969 vol 777 cc285-6W
Mr. Winnick

asked the President of the Board of Trade in view of the fact that South African advertisements appearing in British papers stating that all tourists to South Africa are sure of a welcome wherever they go are misleading and false in the light of the position of coloured British citizens under the South African apartheid laws, if he will take proceedings against those responsible for an offence under the Trade Descriptions Act.

Mr. Dell

I understand that a complaint concerning these advertisements is under consideration by one of the local weights and measures authorities which are under a duty to enforce the Trade Descriptions Act. It would be premature to consider the possibility of action by the Board before the local authority has decided what course to take.
