50. Mr. Clifford Williamsasked the Minister of Power, in view of the increasing demand for solid fuels for central heating, how many kinds of natural and manufactured fuels are now produced; and what tonnage of stocks there are in reserve of each type of fuel.
§ Mr. FreesonMost solid fuels can be used for central heating, but hard coke, gas coke, anthracite and boiler fuel, are mainly used. At the end of December, 1968, merchants' stocks of these categories were about 110,000, 150,000 and 270,000 tons respectively, giving a total much the same as at December, 1967. In addition there were about ½m. tons of suitable gas coke at gas works.
