asked the Minister of Transport (1) what additional resources will be made available for urgent improvements to roads in Somerset this year, in view of the latest accident figures.

(2) what steps he is taking to improve road safety on roads for which he is responsible in Somerset, in view of the accident figures for last year.

Injury accidents in Somerset have tended to fall over the last four years. A detailed analysis is being made to see whether special safety measures are justified on the roads for which my right hon. Friend is the highway authority or for which he gives grant.
