asked the Minister of Transport if he will now introduce illuminated variable speed limit signs on motorways in order that speed limits may be reduced to provide greater safety in conditions of fog, ice, or through any other hazard.

Mr. Marsh

Yes. I am already doing so. The first is in operation on the Severn Bridge, and the second at the London end of M.4, will soon be working; other lengths of motorways will follow in order of need.
