§ Mr. John Smithasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what advice he received from the Holford Committee about the proposed demolition of Scotland Yard.
§ Mr. SkeffingtonThe Historic Buildings Council for England, of which Lord Holford's Committee now forms part, has recently informed my right hon Friend of its view that New Scotland Yard has claims to be Norman Shaw's finest building and that its demolition would be a tragedy in itself and a serious set-back to the cause of preservation in general; and also of its conviction that it should be preserved. This accords with the views458W previously expressed by the Holford Committee on the importance and future of the Norman Shaw building.
