Mr. Carlisle

asked the Minister of Transport (1) whether the new computer-controlled warning lights will be provided on the stretch of the M6 road at Thelwall;

(2) What was the cause of the delay in placing the contract with Messrs. Plessey for the installation of new computer-controlled warning lights on the M6 at Thelwall.

Mr. Bob Brown

There has been no undue delay in placing this contract. Tenders for signal systems for some 110 miles of motorway in Cheshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire (including M6 in the Thelwall area) were received on 3rd July, 1969. Following necessary discussions with tenderers, the contract was awarded on 16th September, 1969.
