HC Deb 09 December 1969 vol 793 cc67-8W
85. Mr. Pavitt

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if the decision of the London Borough of Brent to lower its present housing standards in all future housing works is in accord with Government regulations.

Mr. Freeson

I understand that the savings which the council has decided to look for in future developments will not result in any scheme being below the mandatory standards. My right hon. Friend would not, of course, approve any scheme for subsidy which was not up to those standards.

86. Mr. Pavitt

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many building sites which had previously been acquired by the London Borough of Brent for the housing programme have now been sold; what was the total number of homes which were planned on those sites; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Freeson

Brent Borough Council has sold three sites to private developers that could have provided about 120 local authority dwellings. These could have helped in rehousing some of the many families now living in very bad conditions in the borough, and it is regrettable that they will not now be available for this purpose, but assuming that the sale of these sites is at market value, my right hon. Friend's consent is not required.
