§ 33. Sir T. Beamishasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will set up an interdepartmental working party to study the effects of the introduction of a value added tax and levies on agricultural imports, so that the implications of both can be publicly debated after the issue of a White Paper and before entering into a commitment to join the Common Market.
§ Mr. DiamondNo. An assessment of the effects of levies on agricultural imports will be included in the White Paper which the Government hope to publish in the New Year. The effects of a value added tax would depend on the rates and coverage of the tax, which are for each Common Market country to decide individually.
