Mr. Dempsey

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will take steps to increase the financial loss of earnings, subsistence and other allowances payable to members of local authorities; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ross

Agreement has now been reached with the local authority associations on revised rates of allowances for loss of earnings, subsistence and travelling. Regulations to bring these into effect will be made shortly.
