§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department to what extent the Order under the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries (Amendment) Act, 1969, increasing the limit from 8th December, 1969, to 12½ per cent. to operators of totalisators on greyhound tracks takes account of the depreciation of the £ sterling since 1934 when the 6 per cent. was established; and, taking the £ sterling then as having a purchasing value of 20s., to what extent the 12½ per cent. will ensure the same return in December, 1969, as the 6 per cent. in 1934.
§ Mr. Elystan MorganThe return to operators is affected by factors other than the limit, such as turnover and expenses. The variations in these factors make it impossible to calculate a limit which would produce a return equivalent to that obtained in 1934.
