HC Deb 14 April 1969 vol 781 c203W
Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what cases have been reported to him of misuse through misunderstanding by patients of the five millilitre spoon now being used for measuring doses of medicine; and whether he will take steps by giving it a special name or other means of differentiating it from spoons in ordinary use, so as to minimise the risk of accidental overdoses through misuse of these spoons.

Mr. Crossman

Only one specific case has come to my notice since 3rd March.

Whenever a patient is given a British Standard five millilitre spoon he is also given a leaflet explaining its use, warning against the use of domestic spoons, and clearly indicating that the approved spoon is distinguished by the words "5 ml. dose" on the handle.
