asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will make a statement about Government assistance to the Tate Gallery towards the purchase of "Kill at Ashdown Park" by James Seymour.

My right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer has agreed that Parliament shall be asked to approve a special purchase grant of £20,000 for the purchase of this picture. A supplementary estimate will be laid before Parliament in due course. Meanwhile the money will be advanced from the Civil Contingencies Fund.
