§ Mr. Peter M. Jacksonasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government, what estimate he has received of the capital expenditure required by the North Devon Water Board to remove the arsenic from the Meldon water supply; if he will give details of the expenditure; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. GreenwoodI am informed by the North Devon Water Board that no treatment plant would be installed specifically for the purpose of removing arsenic from the Meldon water, but the existing treatment plant would be extended, at an estimated cost of £180,000, to deal with the increased quantity of water. The Board's advisers say that after normal treatment water from a reservoir at Meldon would he completely safe to drink.
