§ Mr. Elystan MorganIn 1967, about 57 per cent. of the prison population in England and Wales were employed in workshops, of whom some 6 per cent. were employed in the handsewing of mailbags. About 17 per cent. were engaged in farmwork, building and maintenance work, or were undergoing vocational training or working for outside employers. 173W The remaining 26 per cent. helped to run the essential domestic services of the prisons.
