§ 44. Mr. Gurdenasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what are his plans for providing additional secondary education for deaf children in the Midlands.
§ Mr. Denis HowellThe 16 local education authorities in the West Midlands region have recently set up a working party to consider the provision of education for hearing-handicapped children in the area and prepare a report. Two of Her Majesty's Inspectors and a senior medical officer in my Department assist the working party as assessors. At the present time I am not aware of a shortage of places for secondary-age deaf children in the Midlands.
