§ Mr. Wylieasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why he intends to release on parole Joseph Anthony Campbell Stewart, who was convicted of murder in October, 1965 at the Manchester Crown Court, having regard to his other convictions, and in particular to the fact that on his previous release after an exceptionally short period of time, he was subsequently convicted of assault in the Aberdeen Sheriff Court in December, 1967.
§ Mr. CallaghanStewart was due for release on 30th May from the sentence of eight months' imprisonment imposed on him at Aberdeen. He has since been detained under his life sentence, his licence having been revoked on 23rd May. Having recently reviewed all the relevant circumstances, including arrangements for 45W Stewart's future employment and supervision, and following a recommendation from the Parole Board, I have decided after consultation with the Lord Chief Justice and the trial judge, that further detention is not called for, and that he should be once more released on licence on 29th November.
