§ Mr. Joplingasked the Minister of Public Building and Works what advice his Department has given to Westmorland County Council concerning the proposed routing of the Levens Link Road through Levens Park which will interfere with scheduled ancient monuments; and on what dales such advice was given.
§ Mr. MellishThe only relevant correspondence is a letter of 25th January, 1965 in which my Department sought information about the work and intimated that facilities for investigation would be50W required if, as had been reported, the route proposed would affect some unscheduled pillow mounds.
§ Mr. Joplingasked the Minister of Public Building and Works why a list of scheduled ancient monuments in the County of Westmorland issued by his Department on 16th August, 1965 did not include certain sites in Levens Park, in view of the fact that these sites were scheduled on 10th June, 1965; and on what date the list of 16th August, 1965 was amended and the County Council informed of the error.
§ Mr. MellishWhenever the official list of scheduled ancient monuments is reprinted it is the practice of my Department to send extracts to the local authorities concerned. This was last done in 1965 and I regret that the extract sent to the County Council did not make it clear that monuments scheduled since the list was printed were not included. However, an individual notification of the scheduling of the sites in Levens Park was sent to the County Council on 15th July, 1965.
