§ Dr. Ernest A. Davies
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if, in preparing his forthcoming White Paper, he will give consideration to allowing the payment of that part of the supplementary benefits which provides for rent and rates to retired persons who, though not 322W themselves tenants or owners of the premises concerned, share a home with a relative or friend whose income is small.
§ Mr. Swingler
I assume my hon. Friend has in mind a rent allowance for retired people living with friends or relatives. The Supplementary Benefits scheme already provides for a fixed rent allowance of 11s. a week to be included in assessing entitlement to supplementary pension in such cases.
