HC Deb 31 May 1968 vol 765 c290W
Dame Joan Vickers

asked the Postmaster General whether he is aware that for several hours each day, except Saturdays and Sundays, it is almost impossible to get a line to telephone any of the major towns in the south-west from London; and if he will therefore take action to increase the number of lines in the near future.

Mr. Mason

While some congestion may occur during the busiest hours of the day the trunk lines between London and the South West are adequate to meet the demand. The trouble is mainly due to lack of equipment in London, and additional equipment now being installed should soon bring about an improvement in the service.
