HC Deb 31 May 1968 vol 765 c309W
Mr. Russell Johnston

asked the Minister of Health what estimate he has made of the total non-recurring expense involved in the re-imposition of prescription charges.

Mr. K. Robinson

There are difficulties both of definition and of estimating, but I would expect the figure to be between £¼ million and £½ million.

Mr. Russell Johnston

asked the Minister of Health what estimate he has made of the gross annual income from prescription charges.

Mr. K. Robinson

Payments by patients are expected to account for some £16–£17 million of the overall saving of £25 million a year which it has been estimated will accrue from the reintroduc-tion of prescription charges.
