Teelingasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps he is taking both with and without the assistance of the Shell Company to reach 4W a settlement with the Roumanian authorities concerning the claims of the Steaua Romana (British) Company; how much such claims now amount to; and when they were last discussed with the Roumanian authorities.
§ Mr. William RodgersFormal negotiations on all outstanding claims including those of Steaua Romana (British) Ltd., were last held with the Roumanian authorities in December, 1966. Exchanges are continuing, but are confidential and I cannot reveal the details of the claims. We are in close touch with Shell and are aware of their discussions with the Roumanian authorities, which should be regarded as an element in the search for as comprehensive a settlement as possible.
