§ 45. Mr. Wallasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the nationalisation of British firms in Zambia.
§ Mr. George ThomsonOn 19th April President Kaunda announced that the Zambian Government proposed to acquire a 51 per cent. interest in specified companies, some of which are British owned or have a major British investment. Her Majesty's Government are in contact with the British companies concerned and have asked the Zambian Government for details of the relevant legislative and administrative measures particularly in respect of the payment of compensation.
