HL Deb 02 May 1968 vol 291 c1258WA
THE EARL OF MACCLESFIELD

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they are taking to find jobs for Civil Defence workers made redundant by the Government's decision to disband civil defence, in view of the fact that the Government paid 75 per cent. of their salaries.

LORD STONHAM

These civil defence workers are employed by local authorities, who will try to absorb as many of them as possible in other local authority employment. The various employment services of the Ministry of Labour are available to all redundant civil defence staff who wish to take advantage of them. Financial help will be available, where appropriate, under the Redundancy Payments Act, 1965, and under the regulations to be made under section 4 of the Public Expenditure and Receipts Act, 1968.
