HC Deb 12 March 1968 vol 760 c271W
Mrs. Ewing

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, what is his estimate of the consumption of tea per head in the United Kingdom, in Scotland, and in England, respectively.

Mr. Hoy

Estimates of annual tea consumption per head in the United Kingdom in recent years are:

1964 1965 1966
9.3 lb. 8.9 lb. 8.7 lb.

Preliminary estimates for 1967 indicate an upward turn in consumption.

Comparable figures are not available for Scotland and England separately. However, the National Food Survey Committee on Household Food Consumption and Expenditure reports that tea consumption per head in households in Scotland is about 11 per cent. below the average for Great Britain.
