§ 50. Mr. Leadbitter
asked the Minister of Overseas Development what aid is proposed for The Gambia; how this compares with each of the past two years; and what is the value of trade obtained by the United Kingdom in The Gambia including British contracts for constructional purposes.
§ Mr. Prentice
British official economic aid to The Gambia totalled £839,000 in 1966 and £876,000 in 1967. Under a 4-year agreement negotiated with The Gambia Government last year disbursements in 1968 are likely to be rather more than £1 million.
British exports to The Gambia have risen from £2.1 million in 1965 to £2.5 million in 1967. Contracts won by British firms in The Gambia include one of £900,000 for road building financed from our aid.
