§ Mr. Whitakerasked the President of the Board of Trade whether the United Kingdom will support the official proposal put forward by the Scandinavian countries to amend the international convention on pollution of the sea by banning oil discharging, and to establish an international tribunal to consider claims for damages resulting from violations.
§ Mr. J. P. W. MallalieuSo far we have not received any official communication from the Nordic Council but we shall of course be glad to consider the proposals as soon as details are available. Meanwhile both the question of strengthening the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution of the Sea by Oil and the question of liability for damages are being discussed by the Intergovernmental Maritime Consultative Organisation. Her Majesty's Government is taking an active part in these discussions.
