§ 43. Mr. Leadbitterasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on Her Majesty's Government's policy regarding those parts of the Annual Report of the Bank for International Settlements, dated 10th June, 1968, a copy of which is in his possession, which concern the economy of the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsThe Report contains extensive references to the United Kingdom economy on which it would not be appropriate for me to comment in detail. However, I agree with the authors that effective restraint of domestic money incomes and of public expenditure is essential to the achievement of the large and continuing balance of payments surplus that we require.
