The mileages of other roads are given below as at 1st April, 1967 for England and 16th May 1967 for Scotland. These are the latest dates for which figures are available.
England Scotland All purpose trunk roads 5,391 1,944 Principal roads 14,223 4,520 Others 133,323 22,374 Comparable figures of the additional mileages in each of these categories planned for completion by the end of 1968 are not readily available, except in the case of trunk roads, where the mileages of road on a new line to be completed are 40 and 5 respectively. A large part of the work which will be completed over this period consists of the improvement of existing roads to 282W dual-carriageway standard and other improvements which will not result in any increase in the total mileages.
